5/3/98-They Might Be Giants with Lincoln opening, in The Fieldhouse at Cornell University, Ithaca, NY. We had to have a friend of Neil's at Cornell get us tickets. I had my license by this time, but my dad still drove with me. We picked up Charlie, Sam, Beth, and Neil, and then drove on to Ithaca. After some mild delays, we met Neil's friend, and got out tickets. My dad left, with promises to be back to get us after the show. We didn't know where the Fieldhouse was, so just sorta set off. Then the rains came, huge downpour type rains. It was insane. We'd run for shelter, ask someone there to point us to the Fieldhouse, run that way to shelter, ask someone else to point us again till we got there. Which was about when the rains stopped. What luck we have, eh? Anyway, Marshall and Nancy met us there, and we spent a few hours hanging out. Marshall, Nancy, and Neil had to go, so they left. Beth, Sam, Charlie and myself had no problems getting in, although we had to leave our bags in a room dealie. We all picked up a few shirts and such. Lincoln opened, and this time I really liked them. Enough to pick up their CD, at least. TMBG came on and the crowd got a little rowdy. The pushing was strong enough to separate Charlie and I from Sam and Beth. And then Beth got swept away in a conga line later. The show was good, not great. They had a few "new songs," I personally had heard em all before, and seen the band before, but the people I was with all had a great time for their first TMBG concert. A side note, people who waited for John Flansburgh to sign autographs afterwards weren't too happy when he said he had to take his parents to the airport, so we guess they'd been at the show.
Read about the rest of the concerts I've been to on my Concerts Page.
