4/25/97-They Might Be Giants with The Gravel Pit opening at Indiana University of PA. My first TMBG show, it was great. My dad took my friend Jesse Brown (Different from the Jesse for the Bryan Adams show.) and I down. We actually had to do several hours of hard labor to earn our ride and tickets, but we did get out of school that Friday. So the work was no problem. The Gravel Pit was, well, noisy. Their lead guy was funny enough, and Jesse got a setlist, but that's pretty much all that was neat about the opening act. Then TMBG came on. Blew us away. We had spots right on the railing, directly in front of John Linnell. So, comparing this to my Smashing Pumpkins show, I was about 300 closer. Made for great fun. However, my tape recorder was noticed and the tape was confiscated and there was a tremendous crush of people. Still all good fun. Oh yes, and I got a TMBG shirt.
