Party of the millennium?
Without a doubt!
At the end of the current millennium?
Hell no, fool!
Are you invited?
Most likely yes! Friends of Dylan Flipse and their friends are all invited. Basically, everyone who'd have any desire to be there is welcome.
Ok, here's the deal. Three years running (Starting in 97 with about nine people.), I've been having the parties that I call "January Bashes." My birthday is in January, and I've also got a lot of friends who celebrate their birthdays in that fine month, plus another large chunk with birthdays in December (quite nearby). Still, the JBs are less to celebrate birthdays and more of a general party time. I decided that the January Bash to follow JB99 would obviously be called JB2K and, hey...I hear some people are planning parties for Dec. 31, 1999. As I mentioned above, yes, I realize this party won't take place at the end of the millennium, century, or even decade...but that doesn't stop me from throwing the party of the millennium.
Ideally, all my friends will be here. It'd even be cool if I met some new people at this thing. I can say right now that there will be parental supervision. (First, it's necessary if I'm going to get permission to throw a party. Second, it means a lot more people can come, considering that my group of friends extends into both sexes and over a fairly large age range. Third, this isn't the place to look for a wild and crazy party, substance-wise, anyway.)
What's going to be happening here? All the necessities will be provided. Probably don't even need to say it, but televisions with cable for the big midnight moment, lots and lots of food, and lots and lots and lots of soda will be available. My basement, of course, has air-hockey, fooseball, and ping-pong/pool tables, plus a dartboard. We will have some DJ-style sound gear (I do believe). The basement is a good place for music and such. I think we'll have an Trivial Pursuits board for the annual Couch-sitters vs Floor-dwellers Morning After Trivia Battle. Other than that, it's largely up to you. Send me an email with any ideas. (Especially if it's something I'd need to prepare for in advance.) Bring your guitar or bass, big groups of people always make fun jam sessions. Plus, at some point, the Mr./Miss JB2K Pagent will be held, to determine once and for all- Who's cuter, Liz Learn or Dylan Flipse? (Sure, I've obviously got her beat, but it'll be nice to make it official.) It will be emceed by Marshall Roupp and include formal wear, everyday wear, and swimsuit competitions, plus a question and response.
So you need to send me an email, telling me what's what for your status at JB2K. (Putting JB2K in the subject will save me a few minutes, most likely.) If your parents are convinced the world is going to fall apart and that burrowing into your back yard will help you, then get in touch with me and tell me that you can't make it. If you think you might need a ride or be able to provide rides from somewhere, be sure to tell me that. I pretty much also need a phone number. If I don't hear from you, expect me to be getting in touch.

Wrapup
Well, what a time that was. Party started on Friday night...Tom shows up Monday at dinnertime. Here is the timeline of comings and goings, as nearly as I can remember it-
- Monday 12/27/1999-
Tom, Sam, Dylan plan to go to a LAN party in Altoona. That's cancelled. Tom and Sam bring their computers to TFC instead.
Stayed at TFC Overnight - Dylan, Tom, Sam.
- Tuesday 12/28/1999-
Sam goes back to Corning. Tom and Dylan go to Selinsgrove to get Rachel.
Stayed at TFC Overnight - Dylan, Tom, Rachel.
- Wednesday 12/29/1999-
Tom and Dylan leave for Baltimore Washington International Airport around 9AM. Get there, after initial confusion with departure/arrival board, find Charlie waiting for us. Arrive at Rose's gate early, hide out slightly from her when she arrives. Rose, Charlie, Tom, Dylan head back to Williamsport in the Space Van, arriving around 7PM. Rich has arrived at about 6PM, driving from Indiana.
Stayed at TFC Overnight - Tom, Dylan, Rich, Rose, Charlie, Rachel.
- Thursday 12/30/1999-
Entire group sleeps in. Tom, Dylan, Rich, Rose, Charlie leave for Towanda around 11AM. Rose visits her friend Ellen in Towanda, we continue on to Corning (Very late for meeting Kev and Liz), and find Kev and Liz at Neil's house. Rose, Dylan, Tom, Charlie, Kev, Rich, Liz, and Neil go to Bill's house, get Bill and everyone goes to Annilleo's for some pizza. Kevin leaves for work, the rest of us go to Matty V's house. Matty V and Pressly are there. Hang out at Matty V's, and now Tom, Dylan, Rich, Rose, Charlie, Neil, Matty V, Pres, Bill, and Liz go to Sam's house. From there, Rose leaves with Bill to spend the night in Corning, and Charlie, Tom, Rich, and Dylan head to Mansfield. Stop at Tom's house for some clothes for Tom (And Rich), and then at Jered's for some network cards. Also stop at Mike Brion's house, but find him not home. We continue to Williamsport, find that Luke has arrived earlier in the evening.
Stayed at TFC Overnight - Tom, Rich, Luke, Charlie, Dylan, Rachel.
- Friday 12/31/1999-
Day consists of people arriving pretty much throughout. An underline indicates that they were here at least an hour or two early and ate dinner with us, (lots of spaghetti), and an *asterix means that they didn't spend the night. Broken up into groups by carload, with the first group being those already here.

After the official start time of the party, we had music going, thanks to Bill, Sam, and Luke. Luke also supplied various lighting effects and fog machine. Also available was the fooseball, darts, pool, and air hockey, plus the TV with NYE stuff. If the basement and the noise wasn't your scene, there were computers LANing up on the second floor, Unreal Tournament being the game of choice.
The JB2K pagent was a huge success. Everyone got into Liz Learn and I in first our casual wear, then formal wear, and finally our swimsuits. Marshall entertained (?) the crowd during clothing changes, and asked us a few questions before the voting by the crowd. With Tom voting for the emcee, amazingly enough, the votes were tied. To decide who got to wear the tiara around, we held a tossup. I would've grabbed it, if not for Sam pulling me down from behind.
A few minutes before midnight, we gathered around the TVs to watch the countdown. Started going along with it around a minute and errupted into a mass of shouting and "New Year's Eve Kissing." Everyone went upstairs and headed for the front door. The world didn't end. I grabbed the sparkling grape juice stuff and found that most of the males in the group were running around outside on a cold winter midnight with their shirts off, yelling "Happy New Year." The bottles were sprayed and drank, and we watched some fireworks downtown before getting cold and going inside.
- Saturday 1/1/2000-
After midnight, random things happened. Some went back to the computer games. There was a lotta dancing and various game playing. At one point, a group of us just watched the video that goes along with the classic JB boardgame Nightmare. A large group sat around the living room and amused itself with conversation centering around the antics of my dog, Pepper (Sex 'em up, Pepper!). In the morning, the annual Floor Dwellers vs Couch Sitters game of Trivial Pursuit was played, after Mo, Katie and Emma Somers, and another girl arrived. Due in part to some fierce attrition to breakfast and to sleep by members of the floor-dwellers, the couch-sitters took the game for the third year running. Now, we've got em right where we want em, I figure. Cereal, bagels, and fruit for breakfast, sandwiches and leftover snacks for lunch, and most people left JB2K sometime in the early afternoon.
Stayed at TFC Overnight - Dylan, Missy, Kevin, Tom, Charlie, Rose, Rachel, Sam, Rich.
- Sunday 1/2/2000-
Rich sleeps in, drives home to Indiana. Kevin and Melissa drive home to Boston. I drive Sam, Charlie, Rose, and Tom to Corning (stopping at the Turkey Ranch for some good eats along the way). We get Sam's car and Charlie visits with a friend for a while. Head to Mansfield in two vehicles, drop Tom off at his house, and drive back to Williamsport.
Stayed at TFC that night - Dylan, Sam, Rachel, Charlie, Rose.
- Monday 1/3/2000-
Rose has a 9AM flight in Baltimore. Sam, Dylan, Rose, and Charlie depart Williamsport at 2AM in the Space Van, Sam driving. Get to BWI quite early, pretty much sleep in the airport for a few hours. Rose gets on her plane after a slight delay just after 9:00. We find an early flight for Charlie and he gets on that. Dylan drives Sam and Dylan back to Williamsport, and Sam drives himself home to Corning. (Rose's flight was delayed an additional three hours in Baltimore, unknown to us. She missed her rescheduled connecting flight in St. Louis and made it home safely, but seven hours late). Dylan falls asleep on the floor of his room for several hours and Sam goes to bed at 6PM, to awake the next day at 9AM. Rough vacation :)
Stayed at TFC Overnight - Dylan, Rachel
Ok, I hope that's a half-decent rundown of the events. It included none of the breaking, hacking, and fixing computer bits, interesting as they were. Anything I've forgotten, or detail you'd like to add, feel free to send it on over to dylan@flipse.com, as usual. Thanks. Now, we've also got the occasional picture of the event.
Charlie went right home, got pictures developed and scanned. He put up Charlie's Pictures of Really Wild People and Things, a Pic Page containing lots of random shots from his most recent visit to the northeast.
Anyone else with pictures, get in touch with me. I'm waiting on several people to get their rolls developed. I'll scan whatever you've got, if you don't want to or have the ability. I'm also more than glad to host such things on Flipse.com
