Paris

Here we are, leaving our apartment building. Notice the paucity of luggage for a 2-week jaunt across the pond. Our door lady remarked on that to which Dylan responded, "It's all you need" & Surabhi said, "It can be done!"
Niagara Falls roared below us as we flew towards Toronto, which was our stop-over on the way to Paris.
Even though we were pretty beat from our transatlantic flight, we did a segway tour of Paris (Arrested Development fans--yes, it's as cool as when Gob does it!) We were joined by an English family & our Texan tour guide Nick. The Brit mom is credited with saying, "Paris is elegant simply for the sake of being elegant." Nick is credited with asking us to throw in a good word for him with a cute girl who worked at a crepe shop near our hotel. Congratulations to them both. Incidentally, we're standing in front of L'Ecole Militaire or the national military academy, Napoleon's alma mater.
This is about 2 blocks from our hotel. We stayed in the Latin Quarter, named for the fact that university students studied & resided in that area & spoke Latin, the academic language back in the day. Today it's really overrun with Greek restaurants & outside this particular one, there was a large pile of broken glass, in honor of an auspicious occasion, oompa!
The view from our hotel. That skinny beam of light is none other than the Eiffel Tower. It was the only room in the hotel with a view of the Tower--Dylan made sure of it when he booked it. This kid is good.
Surabhi posing as Venus de Milo in the Louvre.
Who is hotter, Surabhi or Mona Lisa?
Dylan enjoying a French treat, citron presse, basically concentrated lemonade served with sparkling water. Tres bien.
More statue posing. This is at the Orsay Museum.
Attention meat lovers! This is the deli to end all delis. This particular shop is on Rue Cler, a Parisian street known for its fine delis, cheese shops, pastries & wine stores. Every type of tasty salted meat you can imagine was available here, along with several entrees ready to serve.
Surabhi in the Arc de Triumphe
Traffic jam below the Arc. Did you know that French insurance companies won't cover their drivers in an accident in that vicinity? Tough crowd.
The tight spiral stairwell in the Arc. The air got heavier & more humid as you climbed up but like all adventures, was worth it.
Out at a Parisian bar. We were the only ones drinking the softball size glasses of Leffe; after all, we're gluttonous Americans
A guy hooked up to an IV bag outside the bar. No explanation whatsoever.
Dot and feather.
We did a tour of the Paris sewer system (Les Miserables, anyone?) Tres romantic.
Park lunch, enjoying our finds from Rue Cler.
The Rodin Museum.
One of the panels at Le Orangerie, dedicated to Monet's water lillies.
The Cathedral of Notre Dame, within spitting distance of our hotel.
Parisian fare.
